After looking at well over 100 guns, this specific gun looked the best. From distances inside 20 feet, the shots are dead on correct (after tweaking your sights to your preferences). Any farther and the BBs (I used .12g) tend to curve up. It’s easy to reimburse for it if you know what you’re doing. .20g BBs could most likely fly straighter for longer. The gun looks tough and well built.

Attachments:
The silencer is useless because it does not make the gun quieter, just less correct. The flashlight and the thing it sits on (I dunno what to call it) really just adds coolness to your gun, which really does not matter. The flashlight is more for indoors and black, outside it just gives your position away. The red dot scope is an adjustable plus sign. The iron sights are adjustable as well, but if you do not know how to use iron sights, your best bet is the red dot. There’s no grip included. There’s a switch on the side of that gun that says hop or normal, I could not learn anything about why they are there, if you know why, react in a comment.

This is most likely one of the best spring rifles you’ll find that’s less than $50. It’s correct, has a high FPS (around 350) and is pretty light if you use the sling included. This gun may be for beginners, but is geared more toward amateurs(beginners having never played, amateurs having many experience).

If you do choose to get this gun, make sure to have many kind of short range auto if you’re playing airsoft matches, and purchase another mag for fast reloading.

Needless to say the sight needs to be dialed in or it wont be correct. But one its sighted properly it works great. Amazon.Com The Silent Cat from Gamo is a high powered, single shot, 0.177 caliber adult air gun suited for small game hunting and pest control. The Silent Cat features a non removable sound dampener that decreases sound by up to 52 . The gun shoots with a velocity of up to 1,200 feet per second (FPS) with PBA ammunition or up to 1,000 feet per second with 0.177 caliber match grade lead bullets. Made with a lasting all weather black synthetic stock, the Silent Cat can go out in any weather. Extra details include a ventilated rubber pad for recoil absorption, a manual trigger safety, and an auto cocking safety system. The Silent Cat comes complete with a 4x magnification, 32 millimeter objective scope with a mount, and carries a one year restricted warranty from Gamo. I 1st bought the GAMO Whisper VH Air Rifle with 3 9×40 Scope, Laser, Light and PBA (.177 Caliber) but it jammed after ten shots and had to be returned. The Silent Cat was coincidentally released that week so I bought it instead. I have shot the Silent Cat for some number of months with no problems. The Silent Cat is somewhat shorter and lighter than the Whisper which makes the Silent Cat easier to manage.

(REAL NAME) I have shot some hundred rounds through the Silent Cat. Accuracy is AMAZING, generally same hole groups at 20yds . With the muzzle velocity chronograph at 1030 +/ 10fps, it’s as deafening as a regular “10 pump” pellet gun which has a velocity around 650fps. Generally, sounds like a BB gun!

The suppressor doesn’t calm down the shot when using the PBA ammo, which gives Muzzle Velocities of 1280 1330fps, jumping into supersonic. With PBA ammo, a report like a ladyfinger firecracker going off is heard caused by the “mini sonic boom” of the projectile. The suppressor DOES protect the muzzle, which is a good enough reason to get this model. The last 1mm of barrel effects accuracy more than the rest of the length! The muzzle crown (where the pellet exits), must be cut perfectly at 90 degrees with no nicks or dings so the air pushing the pellet exits uniformly.

I have a Gamo Big Cat, and an RWS, the Big Cat is .177, and it’s a pretty bit louder than the Silent Cat, about 50 80 fps slower from the muzzle (may just be the gun, not sure without more tests). The Big Cat is observably louder than the Silent Cat when it comes to game downrange. The RWS is about the same volume as the silent cat, but it’s pushing a .22 cal pellet weighing 3x as much at only 800fps.

The bundled scope is hard, good eye break, the only minor issue is in bright light, the bright fiber dots on the iron sights “wash” into the scope somewhat.

The BIGGEST feature of this rifle, the reason I bought it, is the skeleton stock. It lets for the same grip as a thumb hole stock on a 10/22, or the grip on an AR rifle or most handguns. This comfort feature alone increased accuracy and quicker muzzle on target.

CONS:

1) Length of two stage trigger is adjustable, but the weight is not. I wish it was the other way around.
2) NOT related to the air rifle, but to Gamo Pellets. They cost the same as premium pellets, but have the accuracy of liked “$5 for 500″ pellets. If a rifle does not seem to be correct, attempt shooting Polymag or alike True Match pellets! for each day plinking, using any eight grain pellet will hit close to the point of aim, and for many cheaper!


With regards to accuracy, If you have to have 1st shot hits, splurge and get machined pellets. I’m in love with Polymag Predator Pellets, they group “same hole” for me at 20yds. The Gamo “red tip” pellets, which LOOK simliar to the polymag, but have casting marks and extrusions down the skirt, tend group at about 1/2″ at the same distance the premium pellets go practically in the same hole. Velocity for both is close, with the polymag being a bit faster and more stable.


Overall You won’t Regret to get one of these, if for hobby target or hunting small game out to 50 yards!

Though the trigger is adjustable, I was rather disappointed at the hard pull which made correct shots hard and did not annoy trying to change it out. Instead replaced with a GRT III which made the trigger close to the stock trigger on my Air Arms s410 in performance, and now it is quite nice and lets much better accuracy. Once the trigger has been replaced, the accuracy has really improved by tight shot patterns. But Truthfully it did ok with the stock trigger as long as I used a good artillery hold with many added stability like sitting and using a leg for extra support. Standing and shooting with the stock trigger was hard as the hard pull made shot patterns dispersive. But, the light weight of the gun, amazingly light, usually makes this gun easy to manage.

Scope is good enough, way far from top of the line but good enough for this gun. Clear and easy to mount with a stop pin. Used loctite on the screws and after hundreds of shots haven’t had to change after the initial sighting in. Though did run about 250 pellets through it previous to sighting it in to get a reasonable break in.

The cocking effort looks less than I have seen listed (anywhere from 28 ft/lbs to 38) and really looks more like 18 20. Any abled ten year old can cock this weapon. I place the gun butt on my left thigh, hold just above the trigger guard with my left hand, with my right grasp the silencer and break it open and cock it. Really can do hundreds of cocks a day with no arm exhaustion.

For a springer the gun is comparatively calm. As far as speed of the pellets it must be as advertised, because the PBA pellets break the sound barrier (1116 ft/s) and it sounds like a rimfire .22 going off. It is surely louder than my s410 which is a PCP and very calm. The s410 is so calm I missed a squirrel twice (today) and it still sat eating calmly, then I got a little stability as I leaned against a tree for the long range shot (about 60 yds) and took it out with the third. While I would not have taken such a long range shot with the Silent Cat, I also would not have gotten more than one chance. Still, the gun is surely more calm than any rim fire or center fire weapon.

The gun started out with many twang from the spring but that quickly dispersed. As well, there’s a bit of torque from the spring, and a tune could do this gun many justice.

For target practice and light hunting I find myself grabbing this gun from time to time, but will give it to a twelve year old boy as 1st real gun able for training and field.
